 'roped' tubes for heat exchangers
   Roped Tubes
Spirally indented or roped tubes have spiral indentations formed in the tube wall. This has the effect of increasing both the internal and external surface areas of the tube and also turbulates the fluid flowing through the tube. The use of roped tubes can increase performance of a heat exchanger design by up to 25%.

Most tube materials can be manipulated into a rope tube so that a heat exchanger can be designed using the most suitable materials for the application in hand. The use of stainless steel and titanium in rope tubes is extremely popular as they are less prone to corrosion, giving both long life and improve heat transfer.
The use of rope tubes in shell and tube heat exchanger applications is ideal in many ways. The tube can be manipulated to form u-tubes for u-bundles or used in a straight through design configuration and depending on the material chosen, can be welded or roller expanded into the tube plate. This allows flexibility in design and manufacture as well as improved heat transfer performance.

Applied Cooling Technology manufactures roped tubes in a variety of materials and in tube sizes range from 5/8” to 1”.
